Char Dham Yatra – A Sacred Pilgrimage

The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand is one of the holiest pilgrimages for Hindus, covering four sacred shrines:

  1. Yamunotri – The origin of River Yamuna.
  2. Gangotri – The birthplace of River Ganga.
  3. Kedarnath – One of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.
  4. Badrinath – Dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

How to Reach Char Dham

  • By Air: The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun. Helicopter services are available for Char Dham.
  • By Train: The nearest major railway station is Haridwar. Rishikesh and Dehradun also have rail connectivity.
  • By Road: Well-connected by road via Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun. Buses and taxis are available.

Tour Program (9 Nights / 10 Days from Haridwar)

Day 1: Haridwar to Barkot (Approx. 220 km / 7-8 hrs)

  • Travel via Mussoorie, stop at Kempty Falls.
  • Stay at Barkot (Hotel / Guest House).

Day 2: Barkot – Yamunotri – Barkot (Approx. 36 km drive + 6 km trek one way)

  • Drive to Janki Chatti, trek to Yamunotri Temple.
  • Visit Surya Kund, Divya Shila.
  • Return to Barkot for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Barkot to Uttarkashi (Approx. 100 km / 4-5 hrs)

  • Drive through scenic landscapes.
  • Visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
  • Stay at Uttarkashi.

Day 4: Uttarkashi – Gangotri – Uttarkashi (Approx. 100 km one way)

  • Drive to Gangotri, visit the temple and Bhagirathi River.
  • Return to Uttarkashi for an overnight stay.

Day 5: Uttarkashi to Guptkashi (Approx. 220 km / 9-10 hrs)

  • Travel via Tehri Dam, Rudraprayag.
  • Stay at Guptkashi / Sitapur.

Day 6: Guptkashi – Kedarnath (Drive 30 km + Trek 18 km / Helicopter option available)

  • Trek or take a helicopter to Kedarnath Temple.
  • Stay at Kedarnath (Lodge or Guest House).

Day 7: Kedarnath – Guptkashi (Trek 18 km + Drive 30 km)

  • Early morning darshan at Kedarnath Temple.
  • Return to Guptkashi for an overnight stay.

Day 8: Guptkashi to Badrinath (Approx. 190 km / 8-9 hrs)

  • Visit Narad Kund, Brahma Kapal, Mana Village.
  • Stay at Badrinath (Hotel / Guest House).

Day 9: Badrinath to Rudraprayag (Approx. 160 km / 6-7 hrs)

  • Morning Badrinath Temple Darshan.
  • Visit Panch Prayag sites (Confluence of rivers).
  • Stay at Rudraprayag.

Day 10: Rudraprayag to Haridwar (Approx. 160 km / 6-7 hrs)

  • Return journey with a stop at Rishikesh for sightseeing.
  • Trip ends at Haridwar.

Travel Tips

  • Best Time: May to June & September to October.
  • Fitness: Moderate fitness required for trekking to Yamunotri & Kedarnath.
  • Clothing: Carry woolens, rain gear, and comfortable trekking shoes.
  • Permits: Biometric registration is mandatory (available online & at yatra counters).
  • Medication: Carry altitude sickness medicine and a basic first aid kit.
  • Cash: ATMs are limited in remote areas, so carry cash.
